Where the Fig Remembers
Artist: Holly Gao
Category: Open
Description:
Inspired by the ancient Moreton Bay Fig trees of Queensland, this work imagines the hidden spirit that lives between land and sea. Rising from the flowing roots of the fig, a luminous guardian transforms into a jellyfish-like form, blurring the boundaries between forest and ocean.
The Moreton Bay Fig is a symbol of shelter, resilience and deep connection to place. By merging its roots with the movement of water, the artwork reflects the unseen relationships that bind Australia’s landscapes together—where every current, root and living creature shares the same rhythm.
