Artist description: The Manananggal: a filipino child and baby eating monster. This piece is losely based on the folklore and myth of the manananggal. This particular myth was a favourite bedtime story of my grandmother's. The story goes that the manananggal can separate her torso from her lower half and can soar across the skies with her huge leathery wings. My grandmother would warn us to behave or the manananggal would gobble us up by sucking out our insides with her probiscous like tongue! I remember being both thrilled and terrified by these stories and I would always sit enraptured at their retelling's.
